Everyone has someone who has changed their life for the better, and put them on a different, more enriching track. I was fortunate enough to have a family friend who took an interest in me, after he learned about my website and read some of my posts. Since then, he has been a trusted mentor who had a lot to do with where I am right now. I took some time from my hectic schedule to — at long last — let him know what I was up to and to thank him for his guidance.
I hope this finds you well, and that you and Gail had a terrific summer.
This note is long overdue, Arnie and my apologies for that. I wanted to take some time from my studies to update you on my progress at Villanova.
I absolutely love it here and I know I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for your introduction and endorsement. I’m close with [some of the administration] and I’ve strived to become a meaningful part of the VU community.
Above all, I’d like you to know that I’ve adopted your philosophy of identifying and focusing on a particular set of strengths. I believe that I’ve done that, and I’ve had some rewarding result, many thanks to your guidance.
Academically, I’ve been doing really well here. . . I was accepted to the Villanova School of Business this semester, a process that was highly competitive and is really exciting. I want to see what I can do in the field of marketing.
[Here I spent about three paragraphs telling him what I’m doing in my sophomore year at Villanova and my marketing internship with the Philadelphia Flyers. Yada yada . . . ]
I’ve long admired the path you’ve taken throughout your career in the business world, and I’m very grateful for the direction you’ve given me both before and during my application to Villanova. You helped me defy the limitations imposed upon me by my High School guidance counselors, and as a result, I landed at the perfect school for me. In fact, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
I’ll always be highly appreciative of your contribution to the path I’ve just begun taking. Please keep in touch!

It is so wonderful to hear from you. I have been following you on Linkedin and recently saw a pic of you and Danny
No thanks required. From the first time I met you I knew you were special and destined to do great things. You are just fulfilling your purpose and the fact that you are really loving it is the icing on the cake.
Villanova is such a great institution. Everyone I have sent there as loved being there as you do. I have 2 brothers there now – one has started his Masters as he got so much from his undergrad program.
If and when you want to work in NY again let me know. Would love to have you on my team.
Don’t let the Acedemic and work over take the rest of the college experience. You’ll have plenty of time to be serious and live the pressure of the work world.
Be well and stay in touch
Your heartfelt note has made my day!
In a world filled with cynicism and cut-throat competition, it’s life-affirming to have such an accomplished and dynamic mentor as Arnie. The impact of his influence will be with me long after I graduate from college, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.
